Newave's management team leverages a strong technical and international business heritage in a variety of industries to accomplish its mission of creating and providing optimized item-level RFID solutions. Led by proven business and technical executives, Newave has in-depth experience in technology innovation and successful global business development in both large corporate and start up ventures. Our Board of Directors (BOD) and a highly complementary team includes both youthful technical and in-market experience in a variety of industries as well as functional expertise as described below.

Dr. Walter "Den" Burnside, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Chairman, †Deceased.

The founder and genius behind Newave and our patented Wave antenna was Dr. (Den) Burnside PhD EE, Emeritus Professor and former Director of the ElectroScience Laboratory at The Ohio State University. For Den’s RF research work he was awarded NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Award. Dr. Burnside passed away April 18, 2022 following several years battle with pancreatic cancer. Den’s innovative legacy carries on in Newave’s technical team.

Barry Burnside, NeWave Board Member and COO

Barry brings in-depth sales, marketing and general management experience to Newave's leadership team. Barry was with the Bristol-Myers Squibb serving as President for their largest international business regions of Latin American, Canada, Europe, Middle East and Africa and he has also held executive management positions with several divisions of Johnson and Johnson. Barry has lived Internationally for over ten years and has an established a track record of sales, profit growth and strong managerial development. Barry is a Member of Who's Who in America and he holds a BS in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and served as a US Navy fighter pilot and flight instructor after graduation.

Dr. Jeffrey Gau, NeWave Board Member

Dr. Gau is currently the President and CEO of Wistron NeWeb (WNC) and holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from OSU. Given his experience in guiding WNC to its worldwide leadership position, Dr. Gau brings a wealth of business and technical experience to Newave. His numerous global contacts within the related industry have been a significant enabler to achieving Newave’s current level of success.

Technical Expertise:

Robert Burkholder PhD

Dr. “Bob” Burkholder received his PhD from The Ohio State University (OSU) in Electrical Engineering and has since that time has worked at OSU’s ElectroScience Laboratory where he is currently an Emeritus Research Professor. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Full Member of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI). Bob along with Dr. Burnside is a co-inventor of Newave’s wave antenna Bob is based in Lake Charles, LA.

Jeff Burnside, Newave Technical Director

Jeff comes from a strong IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) background, with over 25 years of technical sales experience and business development for two of the largest  companies in the industry. Participating on the executive leadership teams, Jeff was responsible for technical sales growth and development for all inbound and outbound hardware/software sales both domestically and internationally.  Jeff attended both The Ohio State and TEC Universities.  The combination of his education and extensive business experience coupled with his RFID apprenticeship with his father, Dr. Den Burnside, for over a decade qualifies Jeff well to head up Newave’s Innovation Center (IC) Team. Currently Jeff resides with his family in the Columbus Ohio area.

Software Development

Chi-Hao (Alex) Tsai, PhD

Alex received his PhD degree in Computer Science from the prestigious National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. He brings to Newave successful experiences in designing, prototyping, testing, and evaluating various applications for embedded systems. Alex is responsible to both create and enhance Newave solutions software. Prior to Newave, Alex served as a research scientist in a startup company that developed an award-winning real-time translation application on mobile phones. He helped to improve overall recognition accuracy using his advanced knowledge in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. Alex is originally from Taiwan, he is fluent in both Chinese and English and he currently resides in Dublin, Ohio.

Global Business Expertise:

Don Taylor, MBA

Don holds a BS degree in Marketing from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and an MBA from the University of Dayton. Don joined NeWave in 2011 as Director, Business Development. Don brings over 35 years of marketing and business development experience in the Auto-ID and Security industries. Don’s previous experience includes marketing and indirect channel management positions with Sensormatic Electronics, Monarch Marking Systems and Mace Security. Don is based in Bradenton, Florida.

Chris Elshaw

Chris is the former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Revlon, Inc, a $2bn global corporation. With responsibility for the worldwide business Chris led Revlon to consistent growth in sales, profit and shareholder value. Prior to his 12-year tenure with Revlon, Chris held positions of increasing scope and responsibility with Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Clairol division, as General Manager for the UK, Spain as well as Central and Eastern Europe. Currently Chris is a member of several Boards of Directors and consults with numerous companies as a business advisor, as well as conducting due diligence on potential investments for several Private Equity firms. Chris is originally from the UK, is fluent in Spanish and currently resides in southwest Florida.

Craig Mayton

Craig served the state of Ohio as its first assistant attorney general, deputy inspector general, and chief legal counsel to the state’s highest court. He was also a partner at the law firm Isaac Wiles in Columbus. Craig served his country as a military intelligence interrogator in the U.S. Army and was awarded an Army Commendation medal for this service. Craig completed his juris doctorate degree at The Ohio State University.

Europe:

Rob Hollin

Rob has a proven career of highly successful, international executive business experience for 35 years, including 22 years internationally. Most recently he has completed 16 years operating in a global leadership role as International President leading all business outside of the USA for a $3bn subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Prior to J&J Rob held senior executive positions in Sales and General Management with Bristol-Myers Squibb Consumer Products. With a total of 19 years in FMCG and 16 years in Healthcare, inclusive of General Management business leadership at country, region and Global board level for Fortune 100 companies, Rob offers a diversified wealth of experience and contacts. Rob has a Masters Degree in Executive Coaching in Professional Business Management at Ashridge International Business School, UK. Rob resides in Oxford, England with his family.

Asia Pacific (APAC):

Yuanli Chang

Yuanli is a Technical Director for WNC leading the antenna R&D team to provide wifi and NFC antenna design service for notebooks and earphones servicing such key WNC customers as Dell/HP/Acer/Bose. Yuanli received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from I-Shou University in Taiwan. Yuanli is fluent in Chinese and English.

Stephanie Chen

Stephanie is WNC’s Senior Account Sales Manager for RFID. Stephanie received her Master’s Degree in management from San Jose State University in San Jose, California. Prior to WNC, Stephanie worked as an overseas sales manager for Lextar a leading LED company in Asia. Stephanie resides in Taiwan and is fluent in English and Chinese.

Financial Management:

Charles “Chuck” Davin

Chuck graduated from Concordia University, Montreal Canada in Finance with Honors and has a Certificate in Accounting from McGill University in Montreal. Chuck has held increasingly responsible financial positions with Kraft Foods and Bristol Myers Squibb to become Senior Director of Finance for the Americas, culminating in becoming General Manager ISPN, a Bristol Myers Squibb spin off division of Mead Johnson Nutritional in a joint venture with Almarai. Chuck has lived and worked in Canada, the United States, Philippines, Thailand and Saudi Arabia and he is fluent in English and French. Chuck seasonally residences between Montreal, Canada and Panama.

Customer Service and Administration:

Kimberly Pizzuti

Kim is a Dean’s List graduate of Otterbein University with a BA degree in Business Management. Kim came to Newave in August of 2011. Her 20+ years of customer service, administration experience and versatility has enabled her to provide invaluable contributions to sales, marketing, inventory management while overseeing all administration and customer service. Kim resides in a suburb of Columbus Ohio.
